Lesson of the day: if you google Henry II while you are in France, you will get the King who lived in the 1500s, not the 1100's, the one married to Catherine De Medici rather than Eleanor of Aquitaine. Adding the word Plantagenet helps and gets you back to the right century and ties to Rouen. Henry II and Eleanor's son Henry is buried here in the Cathedral. He figures prominently into the William Marshall stories I know by heart. Unfortunately, there is some construction where his effigy is so you can only see it from a far. Still, it is a thrill to be walking the same steps as Henry, Eleanor and their sons.
Tonight the cathedral was the backdrop to an amazing light show. Two pieces projected all over the cathedral front to music. One on Jeanne of Arc- as it is spelled here and the other on the impressionists. Amazing but I must wonder what Eleanor would have thought of it!Also, note to self: apples, Camembert and a cider creme source go amazingly well together. I must experiment when I get home.
